Quarantining in La Jolla

Quarantining in La Jolla

May 2, 2020 by Darin Gibby

We’ve never taken a real road trip, and after two months of sitting around, we decided to tough it out and head across the country. San Diego agreed to open their beaches for walking and surfing, and we couldn’t resist.  We make the sixteen hour drive from our home in Denver to La Jolla Shores, wearing gloves and masks at every pit stop.   Now, every morning we get up, walk across the park and do a few hours of surfing.

I have to admit, the sunsets here are spectacular.  I love sitting in our front room looking at this every evening.

The other thing we discovered is that every few years the ocean turns red because of all the algae.  It’s kind of weird surfing in the stuff, but at night when the waves agitate it, the water turns blue.  It’s super cool.  Here’s a photo of what the waves look like.
