I’m not sure what planet I’m living on, but until about a month ago, I had never heard of Amor Towles. When I saw the reviews on his books, I decided to try one out. I chose his latest novel, The Lincoln Highway. I was hooked from the first page.
When I finished reading The Lincoln Highway, I told my wife that this was the best book I had read in a decade. After I read the book a second time, I was convinced that it was the best work of fiction that I had ever read. I’m not kidding. The best work of fiction I have ever read.
Towles is brilliant in the way he weaves together the themes of opposites, guilt and atonement, living in the moment, as well as the hero’s journey, somehow working in the Greek myths using an ancient history professor. I would go on, but I wouldn’t do justice to what is contained in this book. I’m still trying to soak it all in.
If you want to learn how to live a one of a kind day day as opposed to an every day day kind of day, this book is for you. It will give you a little serenity in your step.
